| Take two measurements of your foot across the arch area,
allowing about a quarter inch on each side for the seam. The first
measurement will be just above the toes, and the second one will be across
the upper foot near the ankle, at the front. Make a pattern for the soles.
Cut two soles out of the fabric, for lining. Cut two nonskid soles for the
bottoms. Cut batting pieces out the same size using as many as you want for
sole comfort. Place the padding between two sole pieces, and pin together. Using the wedge shape on the back of this paper, cut four pieces of fabric and two pieces of batting the same size. Place a batting piece between two fabric pieces, right sides outward, and quilt or sew across these pieces in order to hold them together. Cut 2-1/4" strips of fabric, about a total of 70 inches, and make binding. Bind and finish both longer sides of the wedge-shaped top of the slippers. Top stitch trim in place at this time. Place the quilted and bound tops on to the soles at the appropriate area, pin the edges, and try on the slippers. Adjust for size, allowing 1/4" on each side for seams. Lay the non-skid fabric underneath the soles and pin. Bind over the whole outside edge of the sole, including where the tops are sewn to the soles, and overlap the ends. Whip stitch underneath to finish. |
